Much truth in this piece, Dawn. We must all learn to love ourselves first. Gaining inner peace was the most challenging quest of my life. Looking back, what sounds simple now almost destroyed me. I was bullied at home to the point of PTSD. I never started writing until retirement age. I grew up with a damaged psyche never to defend myself, never to muster the courage to do the things I take in stride these days -- public speaking, writing poetry, a novel, singing karaoke, looking into the eyes of those I interact with. That is where I finally discovered that there really is love in the world, that everyone has some special gift to enable self-esteem. I have been smiling ever since. We all need to regain our self-confidence, to realize we are strangers in others' eyes. We owe them a chance to share their world with us for a moment. Bless, you.

That makes me sad, but so thankful to hear you are really happy and open and full of self esteem now. That is wonderful to hear and now. And I agree we have to love ourself before we share ourself with others. hugs Dawn
This piece holds not only truth but wisdom in it. Nicely done, love the way you expressed your thought and encouraged not just the notion but the action of "Self-care" as well. Too often as individuals we do forget to "recharge" in a world that moves unendingly, so as your poem states how can you be of help to anyone if you yourself are running on low or for the most part... empty? Love the overall encouragement this poem is filled with.

For me it is often times, a walk at night... or just at sunrise or sunset as I enjoy the view. The quietest portions of the day where the world finally seems to stand still, those place I find also at local parks or nature reserves.
