The Pampered Child

The Pampered Child

A Poem by Onlyme

To wrap, a child up in
cotton wool,
all its life.
Just messes them up.

And makes them feel,
as though
they can bully you.

Into fixing them,
when they upset
and woeful.

Whenever
anything goes wrong,
in their own personal life.

Or, that, they
can get anything they wish
or want or need.

Just by the drop,
of a petted lip,
in your direction,
from them.

Also by having a
temper tantrum
and seeking bad
attention.

The parent gives in,
to their mental
bribery.

To shut them up
and to calm them down.
By giving in to their demands.

"They spared the rod
and spoil the child".

Meaning, they did not
discipline the child.
By saying.

"No at times to them".

They are just constantly
doing as said child wishes.

Instead of them being
the adult and
the proper caretaker
to said child.

Then they, grow up.
Even more, fucked up.

As life just does not work
that way.
On demand.
Getting everything your
own way always.

Not in the real work.

This made me laugh, Dawn. Not that I think it was meant to be funny, but because I agree with you here completely. Holding a child too tightly for too long really screws them up.
Thank you for sharing this wonderful gem with the world.
