The Poet/Poetess

The poet/poetess who crafts their subjects

from the mighty power of the pen they hold

or keyboard they press with their fingertips.

And declare, expresses profound emotions

outwardly towards the paper

on the desk or virtual screen before

their very eyes.

Each stroke of the writing implement

shares insights, visions and written words

as well as deep meaning emotions.

Cometh from within the spirit, soul

heart and mind.

To share with all. And give a part of

themselves too.

And maybe give some hope, love,

enjoyment and thought or moral tale

from their creative magnifications

they conjure up within their existence

on earth.

We each value and needed on this

planet called earth.

And can give so

much more towards others and to ourselves.

By opening up and sharing our gifts

with others as we do already with our poetry

at present. And be a better human being in

the process.

i often wonder if with each poem we lose a little of ourselves, or if we gain a little more of ourselves...
surely we are sharing our craft...and hoping the giving helps others...in some way.
Understanding, empathizing, sympathizing, encouraging...
really nice gift this poem is to the others on the site.

Do you know something Jacob, that is an excellent point you have stated. I do agree with what you're saying. Do we lose a little of ourselves, or if we gain a little more of ourselves. Sometimes I think it's a mixture of both, depending on our emotions and state of mind. If we are upset, happy, sad whatever. And the context of the poem or story we are sharing and giving of ourselves towards others. And getting from giving it in return. Good questions. Thanks Jacob. hugs Dawn.

Hey all,
Real good question to ponder . . . The thought that comes to mind . . . cells are constantly replacing themselves . . . breathing the air of our ancestors . . . Isn't poetry an interchange, a market of ideas, emotions, concerns we share with others (In WC's case--for free!) Growers of fruit and veggies in the marketplace give a part of themselves . . . sweat, hard work, love of growing, healthy habits, etc. So do poems that graciously given are often graciously received. I believe when poetry is written, offered and received there is an exchange of the soul that's hard to qualify or quantify. Whew! Am I ever waxing poetic . . . I'd better shut up. Thanks for the poem Dawn.
