The Psychiatrist or The Counsellor

who sit in might  throne of power

and analyze and put you

under the microscope.

Thinking they understand and can

cure you of all ills.

When really all they have done is

study and go to University.

And got a degree. And actually, have

no real down to earth reality of what

it's actually like to suffer

first hand. They only see if

from their safe perspective

on the other side of the nice room.

They don't walk in your shadow

or in your daily life.

Some do their very best to relate

and understand. And others just

talk total crap to you and don't

understand one bit.

Let alone actually hear you

talking or even care.

Just because you have a degree.

Does not mean you understand all.

I guess actually going to see either

one. Are you do all the talking and you

actually solve your own cure problem.

And they dish out.

The odd medication to keep you docile if

needed. lol

A cynical person am I guess...

This is an interesting poem about counselor/counselling! You do ponder a lot of most people think twice about with counselling. To some it's just them wanting money and fake sympathy... Others it's an effective way of getting help. It's all in the view. I like this and the POVs of how one would view a counselor

I've been through therapy on and off for yours and I wrote a story in a cynical fashion much like you have.
I think it depends on the therapist sometimes. Like having a good or bad teacher. Some people you connect with and open up to. But a lot of it is them listening and guiding you towards your own awareness.

Cynicism is not always wrong, Dawn. It is true, having a degree does not make a person understand it all. I think, though, the reason people go to a psychologist is to talk out their problems and be led to a solution of their own making. Medication is prescribed all too often, I agree. Interesting write. Everytime I think of seeing a psychiatrist, I think about these stuff. I don't know why but I feel that they can't help. They might know but they can't help

To be honest, on the other hand. I think it all comes down to finding the right one you can relate to and who actually listen to you. And you can communicate with fully. Who does not over rule you. But lets you speak. A two way relationship basically. If you can find that. Your on a winner. So please never think. It's not worth it. Give it a go and you might be surpised. It's just finding the right one you can relate to and who can relate to you back.
