The Young Ones, In Heart & Mind

The Young Ones, In Heart & Mind

A Poem by Onlyme

Betty is 90 years young.
And every year she enjoys
going to her old age pensioners
Christmas Show and meal with
all her pals at the local church hall
club. They are called "The Young Ones
In heart and mind club".

They all range from 65 to 97 years
of age. Both men and women.
Who enjoying mixing with others,
and finding a reason to get out and
about. As well for someone to be less
alone. As their other half has
passed away. And their grown-up
kids. Live in fear of parts of the country,
or abroad.

Oh don't get me wrong they
phone them regularly, Visit when can.
And send gifts for Christmas and Birthdays.

But they are loyal members of their little
groups.

This year they went to A Pantomime. I know
most would think, why would old people want
to go to a Panto?  Well, they wanted to and did.
All 30 of them. And loved it.

And for Christmas Dinner, they are going to a
fancy hotel uptown. And getting all the courses
with a sherry and a cup of coffee or tea.

They pay a small percentage towards these occasions and
the local council contributes towards the rest and
that includes a minibus to take and bring them home.
Well actually to the church hall. Where the group is based.

Rest of the years, the watch movies in the church hall, go strolling
around the local beautiful parks and have Sunday dinners
made by local volunteers for them every weekend.
