Reminds me of an unwanted kitten we acquired. Trust me to choose the damaged one; a kitten with one eye (the other eye completely missing, the eye socket closed, and furred over)...or Dusty, a little grey kitten with a deformed leg.
We took him to the vet, who recommended amputation, as this left, front leg was impeding him.
Once that leg was off, Dusty came into his own! He still limped when he was walking, but when he ran--a blur! You couldn't tell there was anything at all wrong with him!
He died at 17, which is a good old age.
I enjoyed your memorial tribute, Dawn.
I noticed two things.
I think you meant 'the runt of the LITTER', also 'he lived to a grand, OLD age'.

My husband went to pick up our kitten, and he came back with him, his two brothers, and his (pregnant again) mom.
She had four more kittens...
A beautiful poem Dawn and brought back many memories of many litters throughout our lives living in town and out on farms. Loved the imagery and the memories!

This sounds like a tribute Dawn to a little pup, the runt of the litter, who survived against the odds with Linda and Bill who adored him. We had a kitten like that who survived against the odds. Heartwarming and sad at the same time.
