What is Community Spirit? and where did it go...

What is Community Spirit? and where did it go...

A Story by Onlyme

I remember,  when I was a kid,
growing up.
We never had to lock our front doors,
and everyone looked after everyone else.
There was a community spirit.

No one was lonely, scared, sad or upset.
There was always somebody to talk to
if needed someone to ask for help
or a listening ear.

It's nowadays, so common for people
to just lock their homes up like a
jail. And to just look after number one
themselves and their own family.

There is no Community spirit no more.
And that to me is very sad.

This is wonderfully to-the-point. It also feels wonderfully homey to someone like me.
I live in one of the outskirt communities, where for the most part, we still live like that. I grew up in a city, where places like this were all there were. I'm fortunate to live outside of everything in this Mayberry-like community these days.
This poem made me feel at home, even though i'm not right now.
Excellent job.

People believe the world is scary and dangerous. No worst or better than 50 years ago. New world, cell-phone and internet. Human contact is forgotten. My daughter got mad at me. We took a 12 days vacation to California and I talked to everyone near. Your words, true and sad. Few people know their neighbors now. Thank you Dawn for sharing your amazing words and thoughts.

We must change. Alone, we are weak. We need kind voices and love near. You are welcome Dawn.
