Is Religion All That? Or is Being an Atheist the answer? curious.

A Poem by Onlyme

I am just so curious: As to why we have
so many Religions, on this vast planet
called earth?

And how do we actually know they are true?
And that these stated in Holy scriptures
and books did really happen?

Or is it all just made up to appease them
masses and the followers of these
faiths to give them someone to believe
in general. And to give them a meaning
and purpose in their daily lives.

To keep control and order over
their so-called flock.
Maybe I am being cynical and rude.

However,  also power comes from great riches and rewards.
 Just like the Catholic Church
who have their own "Vatican City" that rakes
in both.

This is just one example I am using above of course.
So many others besides the Catholic Church.

I guess. I am wondering.

If I was an Atheist?
Would I be just as happy and content, without a great leader,
God overseeing my life daily?

I often wonder these very statements and questions. And set my
head spinning.

Dawn - I'm sure that humans throughout time immemoriam have wondered the same thoughts. I think we all want to know that there is more to our existence than just life and death. I believe that religion was created to give humans a moral standard that they should live by.

What I can't understand is that basically they are ALL trying to get us to the same place. Why they big hallabalou over which one we follow in order to get there? I honestly don't get the "Mine is the best and I'll kill you if I have to in order to prove it to you." attitude.

My feelings are that if somehow it were possible to erase all religions and the memories of them I think the world would be such a better place. Just a thought. I can't remember the title of the song, but in it John Lennon said it best.

Take care - Dave

to answer Your questions let me share some of my opinions, I think of religions as a way to organize the countless numbers of people around the world, depends on the environments they live in and some others reasons, of course through the long times I know that religions been distorted of their main true essences and been used to humans greed and their own racist beliefs, what matters to me is the spirituality, not religion there is a difference between them, and what matters to me, love and kindness that ones give, an atheist who spreads kindness is not even comparable to a religious one who do nothing good to this world! what matters is what is it that You do to make this world a better place?

Thank you, Light, for your awesome insight into Religion and humans. Dawn
I believe that the desire--the need--to worship is innate in humans. As a Christian, I believe in the Bible as the Word of God, dictated to various men of faith by our Creator. After leaving my parents and Jehovah's Witnesses behind, I attended many churches, looking for one that I felt followed the Scriptures as I did.
The Catholic Church was one that I considered, but it didn't measure up, in my opinion. The Bible speaks against several things which are taught by Catholicism. Example:kneeling before an idol. They say that their statues aren't idols, but 'aids to devotion'. Looks like an idol to me. I also objected to the Pope in principle, never mind that he lives in a luxurious palace while the whole place is surrounded by the hovels of the poor.
I settled in the Agape Christian Fellowship Church, in Brattleboro, VT. That is a most Godly church. The people are welcoming and nonjudgmental, and the Pastor lives in a modest house and drives a Prius. All money collected (in free will offerings) go to missionaries they sponsor.
I studied all the more popular religions. I almost chose Buddhism, but I do believe that salvation comes from acceptance of and faith in Jesus, and not by our own efforts.
I'm sad that you have chosen atheism, because I believe so strongly that true happiness comes through Christ, and through His loving sacrifice.
Perhaps, though, someday, you will believe.

Thanks angel. Your words and passage from the bible. Does help.
Deep thoughts and questions.
I think there are a lot of questions to be asked and answered and that if we asked them we'd be presented with dozens more. and so on and so forth. it would be a maddening search for the truth of our existence.
it would be nice to know but I am happy to just enjoy life while others go nuts. in the meantime I treat others kindly and respect people's beliefs but I don't necessarily believe myself.

Did God create man or did man create God?

Thank you Ana, for your thoughts, bless you. Dawn.
I think there is a lot out there that can't be explained by science. Not to go too much into my own background, but when I was younger I had seen things that I have had a hard time explaining today. Even then it was explained away as delusions. I don't know. It is nice for some to say that there is no god and religion is for the stupid. But those are the people that take away that deity and put themselves in that position. They become that god and judge accordingly. The atheistic communists of China and the old Soviet union comes to mind. We are a selfish species and evil cant always be explained away as a chemical imbalance. I respect the internal questions you ask in your write. The answers are out there. I just dont know if we deserve to know them yet.
