Furry Friend

A chubby grey squirrel

sitting on the bird stand.

Right in the middle of

our back garden.

Surveying his domain.

He is a stealer of food

and competes

with the birds

for their meals of crumbs

and seeds.

Amusing and cheeky.

As well as endearing and sweet.

You just can not help but

love this furry friend.

Who visits daily.

The local cats.

Are just not arsed

about this critter

in their plot.

It's like they are just one

little family.

That just seems

to get along.

The cats actually

don't go for him

or try to chase him at all.

They accept he is there

and just all mates.

A very cute story poem, my friend. I can picture it as I read, always a good thing.
Here in my neck of the woods (literally) we have black squirrels as well as red and grey, plus chipmunks and raccoons. The cats generally ignore them all!

Could be that your chubby friend gave them what for when you were not looking.
Grey squirrels can be fierce when cornered or attacked. I had a cat who attacked one and lost an eye foe his trouble. My cats are all kept inside, now, and they watch the squirrels from behind the window, where everyone is safe!

There seems to be an understanding as winter comes along that they all need to get ready. You painted a wonderful picture of nature and her bounty, gotta love the critters. Loved it!
