Depression

Depression takes your heart, mind and soul

and covers it in the complete blanket of darkness.

Making you believe this greatest liar and deceiver

and cheater.

Into making you feel totally worthless, useless

and hated,  by all in this world and beyond.

You feel you could not go any lower than you already

are. It's like being dead. But still bearly alive.

Unable to do anything fully. You are like on autopilot.

Numb, hurting, fearful and in deep distress.

Not sleep not eating. Can't think straight. Crying and upset

constantly. Then you can go the other way. To always sleeping

and comfort eating. It affects different people in so many ways.

Depression is a soul destroying.

And a manipulator of human beings.

But we have not got to believe this trickster

and fight this demon back.

And get him of our souls.

And be who we want to be for ourselves.

Fight and kick a*s.

As you are far from alone.

A powerful statement to so many people. I like how you call Depression a deceiver and a cheater. So often it breaks the rules in order to feed itself, while it is tearing us down and keeping us down. Very creative to portray it as a villain while we ourselves are victims. I appreciate your poem; mental illness needs to be de-stigmatized. Thank you.
