Food & Weight.

Food & Weight.

A Poem by Onlyme

I often wonder why are we obsessed
with weight?

I can understand if someone
is overweight and need to lose weight
for their health. To live longer. Yes, that
is understandable.

But to the point. Where girls are going to
extremes to be thin.

And then comfort eaters like me. Who turn
to food when stressed. I know in my heart
it's not doing me good. But it helps me cope.

Then you get other people. Either Male or
female young or old. Rich or poor. Whatever
lifestyle. Suffer from anorexia or bulimia.
And each new day is a struggle.

Television, adverts on Massive Billboards and
in local newspapers don't help with the image
of being slim and underweight to this generation
of young people in general.

And models on the catwalk are so painfully thin
it's a wonder they don't snap in half.

We live in the age of fast food stores and restaurants
Like McDonald's, Burger King to name a few places.

I remember as a child every meal at home was
cooked at home from scratch fresh then eaten
for the meal.

It's so easy to pick something up quick. Or get it
ordered in for dinner or any meal basically.

Don't forget you can go from one extreme to the
other from no exercise at all daily. To never away
from the gym Monday to Sunday.
Now that is a bit of excess in general.

I guess it's the happy balance. In general. I need.
Eating better and healthier and some more exercise.

Even at my age. Being older.

Ugghhhh….I love to eat, drink and all that jazz, but it does wreak havoc with my weight and the way I feel at times. I think you have the gist of it at the end of your piece. Get a little exercise, don't eat pizza and wings everyday and be happy. Loved it!!

I don't think I've ever met anyone who was happy with their weight.
Sometimes you just need a big mac.
Sometimes you need a Chinese.
You never fantasize over vegetables.
Though when I'm out running, chocolate comes into my mind.

Wyrn you tickled my funny bone on that one. lol
I totally relate to your thoughts here. Having swung between the two extremes mentioned here, I always tread a thin line. The trouble is that eating is a very emotional thing for many of us and we have trouble dealing with it rationally. Exercise and weight watching are related issues. Appreciated very much.
