Insignificant...

Insignificant...

A Poem by Onlyme

He sits on a street corner
huddled up into a tiny ball
head tucked deep into his chest.
On the side street in a Major City
in the Uk.

Everyone just passed him
like he was the piece of s**t
on the street.

Not even an inclination of giving
a thought about him.
He was basically not
even their in their eyes.

We saw him.
And felt sad and empathy
for him.

We walked over to him
And said hello
He looked up shocked
at someone actually talking
wanting to speak to him.
That actually shocked me.

And I handed him some
money and some crisps.
And he was more interested
in the crisps than the money.
As he was so hungry.
That to me is very sad.

I shook his hand and told
him my name and asked him
his. His name was Karl.

Yes he was homeless he was dirty
and his clothes were worn
and torn and filthy. His hands were
dirty and so where his
fingers nails.

But when he spoke he spoke
soft and sincere.
And no, he was not drunk
or high as a kite.
He was normal
Down to earth and a really nice
genuine person. You could tell.

As he was shocked at our generosity
and kindness and gave me a hug and
thanked my man as well. He told me he
lived in a tent. You could tell he
needs a good feed. A nice warm bath
and some nice clean clothes.

You think you are having a bad day!

Think of others... not just yourself, please!

When I was in the homeless. The guy
working in the homeless for the Council
told me. Young men, single and have no mental
health problems. Are treated terribly.
And sometimes Turned away. To me that is
disgusting.

It was different if you had health problems
or pregnant women or came from a foreign country.
They would help you. But a man alone.

A homeless person is a human being
worth a lot. They have feelings as well.
It's easy to look the other way. And
walk on by. But to actually stop and
talk to them. You could be saying
someone life. That guy tonight had
some faith in humanity given back
to him. And some love from someone
who cared enough. To stop and talk
and aid the best they could.

We can't save everyone. But we can
all help a little when every anyone
needs a helping hand.

This reminds me an incident that happened with my uncle (dad's elder brother)...at a midnight a theif entered our home to rob but as my uncle caught him red handed the theif started apologising...where all the other people were about to bash the theif my uncle went against them and asked the theif that what made him think of robbing our house exactly....his answer was expected...nothing but poverty....uncle helped that person instead punishing him....well that's a story of years ago....but reading yours makes me feel mankind isn't extinct yet....its just that we're able to help but sometimes we avoid doin' that...may there be valid reasons.....Still I believe in giving a helping hand that'd make me blessed anyway!
