I know that feeling of being in a crowded room, and still being alone.
I bring it on myself for the most part I realize. At 63, in my life
Experience, I've been betrayed, cheated, hurt and deeply wounded
By people I've opened up to, so that now I find it hard to do so.
Much of it is a feeling of superiority, of 'why should I go slumming" like this?
"They can never understand or relate to me, so why bother?" is many
Times my feeling.
Your poem evokes and definite feeling, and echo within me that isn't"
Altogether pleasant Dee, but that just shows how well you wrote it.

I spend almost all my time alone, but for the most part am not lonely.
Bored, yes, but not lonely.
I live in a small, Go'vt subsidized supportive housing facility. Most of the people here do not have vehicles, and rely on Public Transport.
Since the little "non-disability" income I make is by playing music for Senior's in Retirement/Assisted living/Nursing home facilities, public transport is not an option.
So I give rides to my neighbors, to the grocery store, and if they go to the Kroger where I shop, I don't ask for gas money; they use my Kroger card, I get their gas points. win win for both parties.
In this way, I get out, I'm not alone (for a couple of hours when I play, or a few minutes when going to the store)
Playing music is the light of my life and my joy, seeing the smiles and toes tapping and laughter, goes a long way to alleviating loneliness.

I love your poem it has so much sadness within it that I can feel the pain you felt while writing this. I hope things will get better for you, and if you ever feel lonely, you can talk to me if you want :)
