Anxiety Attacks... What it feels like....

Anxiety Attacks... What it feels like....

A Poem by Onlyme

Anxiety is a curse
your insides are churning up
like trouble bees in a nest
living inside
your stomach
Feeling shaky all over
your body.
Wanting to run away and hide inside
your mind
. But can not.
As well as sweating from
head to toe
But outside your
are trying
so hard
to act "Normal"
and not give off
any inclination
you are distressed
and not coping
at all...
how ironic is that

Fight or flight
really is the state
of the situation
you feel within

your mind racing
ten to the dozen
And when you
speak you feel
your voice is
shaky so much

And your brain
feel numb and
terrified

frozen in time
By images of
bad situations
and questions
that just seems to
roll
uncontrolled
inside your thoughts
cinematic
camera with
sounds making
you feel far
worse.

Losing grip on
oneself is not
nice at all.

That is what anxiety
attacks feel like...

To come back to the present
you have to calm down
take deep breaths
and slowly breath in and out
focusing on your breathing
and painting a nice calming
influences inside your
mind's eye.
Like sunbathing on a nice beach
relaxing or
laying on your bed listening to
relaxing music.
whatever takes your fancy
these help to redirect your
thoughts and those bad images
into good ones.
And hopefully, over time
 you recenter and focus
on the good thoughts,
not the bad and
start to feel calmer
and more relaxed.

Many many people write about anxiety on this website (being a place where people pour out their angst amongst understanding friends). However, this is one of the best explanations of how anxiety can feel & especially appreciated is how you take extra time to add your ideas on overcoming anxiety. This poem is a total package, diagnosis & cure, but also done in an artful way with lots of palpable descriptions (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie

Dee - I appreciate your forthcoming on such a serious topic. I feel blessed that I have, I believe, never had a serious anxiety attack. I have had some very anxious moments and during those I found myself doing some of the things you recommended to relieve the stress. - Thank you - Dave
