Cancer..... Needs To Be Kicked Into Touch...

Cancer..... Needs To Be Kicked Into Touch...

A Poem by Onlyme

You hear about it everywhere
but until it happens
to someone close to you
Cancer

It really does screw
your life up bigtime
and your families
and friends

The person it's happening to
they just can't get their head
around it properly at first
they are shellshocked
stunned
then numb
then anger
frustrated
mad
stuck in limbo
I could go on.

Spare a thought
for someone with Cancer
young
teenager
middle-aged
old
whatever age
It's a wicked disease

That a lot of people
shun away from
and never ever
talk about
Well, I'am.
Because
it's important.

For everyone
to understand
How it affects
these poor souls
and their loved ones.

Wholeheartedly agree with you Dee. It is a devastating disease. I know many survivors, people in various stages of treatment and also friends and relatives who have died. It touches everyone, especially the loved ones. They seem to find it even more difficult than the patient.

Been there, bought the T shirt and am now waiting for the end (unfortunately) Rhyming poetry is my usual game but when I saw your comments on cancer I had to read it. Don't know how long I have left but will carry on reading and writing while I still can. Take care Rod.

i agree with you many of my loved ones succumb to this disease and a close friend of mine is a survivor but then it is so sad and this poem is so touching

This is something which seems to do my family in. We seem to normally last past eighty.
The sad part is you get used to it. Currently, one of our survivors is my niece. She was having chemo at nine months. She is now getting ready to start college.

Well done dee for doing your bit to share this. Last year i had a scan which showed up something suspicious and I had a very worried wait until a biopsy showed it was ok. You are very right in saying that we tend to think these things happen to others.
All the best.

You're completely right. Thanks for thinking about all the victims of cancer.

You're right, of course, having had a scare with the big "C" we'll take most diseases over that diagnosis.
Two things. What did your mean in your title?
And second, I think you meant family's

I lost both my grandparents at 64 to cancer. I was younger and it was so hard to go through. It is hard to understand unless you have witnessed this disease in action, as you said. Hopefully someday we will have a way to cure it, but for now all we can do is support those with the disease and their family and friends.

"The Emperor of All Maladies," as it has been called. Very few things strike more terror in the human soul than cancer. I wholeheartedly support your position regarding talking about it. Too many people have suffered in silence.

This is a very 'conversational' poem. I think you write because there are things you want to tell about, and I think a lot of people identify, and are very pleased to read your poems. But, here comes a criticism, as a poem I think it needs to be tightened up a bit. I think that would make better poetry, but poems are written for very many reasons. Good for you for expressing this one.
