The Bus Driver.....

The Bus Driver.....

A Poem by Onlyme

The bus driver
doing the same old route
stopping and picking up
even helping
the odd old person
on and off his bus
let alone
the young mums with prams
with young kids in tow.

Sometimes,
I feel sorry
for the bus driver
With the overwhelming heat
and driving a massive bus
within an enclosed tight space and
no proper ventilation to cool them down

The abuse and hatred they get
sometimes,
from rude and nasty
people
are quite shocking,
to say the least.

And they have got
to stay calm and
not be aggressive
or nasty back.

They should get a medal for
put up with said crap!

And cheeky folk
who try to
sneak on the bus
without paying
make me laugh

because do they not see
"the CCTV cameras on the bus
to catch them out".

And when it snow or rains or
even in thunderstorms
the said same bus driver
is always
on his way
pick up his regulars
and doing his job
the best they
can.

God bless our Bus Drivers
As I do. We would be lost
without them. Same goes
for all public workers on
Trains, planes, coaches
trams...

I love that you focus on bus drivers, a forgotten group of people. Any poem is better when focused, so a message can be packed with pertinent details, as you have done so well. But I also find myself reeling at your message becuz of how it applies to ANYONE doing a SERVICE-oriented job! The general public can be so rude & tipping is often so chintzy! I love your straightforward way of calling people out. You come up with many observant & caring aspects of whatever message you want to convey (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie

I second that also Dee. Worthy praise for the bus drivers who have a responsible job, transporting people safely to their destination. I have witnessed myself some of the abuse they have to put up with. Thank you for your consideration of these public servants and the important role they play.

Thank you Chris.
You described it in a better way. The piece contains a message to the people that everyone on earth should get his piece of respect for their service. The Bus drivers do a lot for everyone of us. But sometimes didn't get the proper behavior they should get. Good poem with a great message!!

Nicely done, a good and positive message. In your second last stanza, there is an extra "t"

Personally I love travelling on the local bus. It is not very often full, and sometimes I have the whole bus to myself! I wish more people would use the public transport. Your tribute to workers on public transport, does great justice to these wonderful, and often 'long suffering' people.
