Looking Away!

The human condition,

or should I say:  just not caring.

Or giving a damn!

Closing one's eyes off.

To what is really going

on around them!

Teenagers killing each other

with guns and knives.
Politicians, lying on the tv and on the radio.

It's all comes down to money

and just looking good for them alone!

Third world countries starving, diseased and at war.

Who does give an f..k anymore?

Only,  the ordinary everyday person.
From some other country or their very own at that!.

Who gets off his or her own butt

and helps others.

Less fortunate than themselves

Simply: because they do cares.

Right now in my life, I am unable to get out & do anything (disabled & housebound), but I believe that everyone should spend a few years of their lives volunteering. I did six years at two animal shelters & that ended up being one of my favorite pastimes when my life felt empty. I couldn’t wait to get off work & go to the shelter. I stopped spending holidays overeating with family & instead I fixed a huge turkey for all the shelter dogs! It’s amazing how it can enliven one’s spirit when we do something for a cause instead of self-gratification! I love your a*s-kicking poem which is sorely needed to make people pay attention to all the tragedy! (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie

Cheers Margie, So sorry to hear you are disabled and housebound. But I must admit, I am so glad to know you on Writerscafe and all the wonderful poems and stories you share and I simply adore and enjoy! And like you I used to volunteer helped the homeless with food and condoms and also drove a community bus for a short time as well. Giving back to the community does help the human spirit and others. I do agree. Lovely to hear what you did for the sheltered dogs at holiday times. That make me smile big time. Hugs Margie your a true delightful person to know.
