Fitting in with others!

Fitting in with others!

A Poem by Onlyme

Human beings really are strange creatures!
We do things to please others
and basically to fit in
to others agendas.

Inside of doing things to make yourself
happy first and foremost.

It is like we think if we fit in.
They will accept, like us better.
And we will  then in return
feel better for them
treating us better.

When sadly and ironically and
truthfully.
We need to treat
ourselves better
and actually, love
me for me
first.
And then others
afterwards.
Who treat us
decent and kindly
and respect us
for who we are.
Then we go
and are happier
in general
with life.

Hello Dee -
Much of what you say is true. We indeed have the feeling of needing to be accepted, to belonging. We must, however, remember who we are. We can't lose or sacrifice our identity to simply please someone else or another group. "To thine own self, be true."

Take care - nice meeting up with you - Dave

the need to be accepted is more than what is emphasized in Maslows theory of needs but then sometimes we have to be our real selves and just wait for them to accept us or not but still there are other options or choices

Great subject dee, there is a psychology of giving to others, it makes us feel good but
it's a two way street, your poem covers that sometimes its a one way street and you become the person
doing all the giving. Good write.

Hi Dee,
Great observations. You can not love others without having love for yourself first. Keep up the good work. Take care. Earl

I don't necessarily do things for others because i want to fit in, or i want them to like me.

i do things for others because i enjoy making other people happy...

Wc😊....!!
One of life's most forgotten truths. A truth we know in our mind but can never seem to transfer it to our hearts and souls. We truly do , do things for others more than we do them for ourselves. Shame really. Great comment and great writing!
