Reminising...Down Memory Lane.

Reminising...Down Memory Lane.

A Poem by Onlyme

It is a British tradition
to have a good moan.
Let alone stand in a long queue
at the supermarket,
getting into a club,
even to fill up your car
at the local service station
is a chore.

Alas, a good British Sunday Dinner
used to be the favourite meal
of that day!.  From roast potatoes,
Yorkshire Puddings, Meat and Vegetables
with loads of gravy. And a cup of tea
and biscuit later. And maybe also custard
with mixed fruit for a  dessert
later if you had room left to fill.

God, do I feel old, reminiscing about those
Sunday classic meal of that particular day.

Nowadays. I must admit. I love a good
chicken curry with rice and naan bread.
Yum Yum. Samosas and even an odd Donna
Kabab. Let alone the odd McDonalds
or a pizza.

Oh, how the times have changed.
Great varieties of foods. From many
a country and shops to choice or buy.
Or even sit in and eat.
Oh, my heaven. I am hungry
thinking about all these styles and
flavours of foods.

Do you remember the penny sweets? And the
bags of pre-weighted 50p sweets from
butterscotch, chewy strawberry bonbons,
to even Everton mints to name just a few.
Those were the days when I was young
I could not stop going to the sweet shop.
And starting at the jars of sweets in glass
jars. Like winning the lottery for me as
a child. Picking,  which one to have as I
get ready to go to school after the sweet
shop run.

Still too early for breakfast, but I want custard and pear halves, or banana slices. Now im wondering what todays kids would make at nakers selling bags of broken biscuits. But dont feel too bad, I remember halfpenny trays of sweets, or if we were feeling exotic, a giant gummy snake. They'd probsbly be a quid each these days.
My personal fave was splicer bars, they were like a massive stripy bar of opal fruits....NOT STARBURST :)
Ps...im laughing at any Americanese reading thid wondering what we're talking about. To them I say sorry.....AND MAROTHON, NOT SNICKERS :)

Very nice. A quick peek into changing British culture. Recently on a flight from LAX TO London. Surprised by the food. Heavy and rich. Wonderful
