Unspoken Warnings

Unspoken Warnings

A Poem by tomorrowmorning

They taught her in school to not talk to strangers,
They taught her how to avoid all those dangers.
At home they taught her to skate and play ball,
But what she learned on her own was the hardest of all.

Nobody ever told her to be careful of friends,
And nobody ever said a broken heart never mends.
She learned these things all on her own,
From seven years old to the time she was grown.

“Let’s go for a drive, I’ll buy you some treats!”
With blonde curls and green eyes, she hopped up on the seat.
She was trusting and happy and without a care,
‘til he pulled over that truck on a dirt road somewhere.

He began with his fingers, caressing her knee.
She giggled, naive, “you’re ticklin’ me!”
He put his hand higher, she pushed it away.
“Let’s go home now, I wanna go play!”

“We’re gonna play here with your body, so young.”
“But I wanna go home!” and the slap really stung.
Her Dad always told her to save her tears for goodbyes,
But her heart was breaking and she started to cry.

He unbuttoned her jeans and they fell to the floor,
She told him to stop and reached for the door.
Her heart started to race as the doors locked with a click,
She grabbed at the locks but they just seemed to stick.

He pushed her down hard and started lifting her shirt,
Pinched her and squeezed her as she cried that it hurt.
He put her hands om his back, climbing on top,
Ignoring her cries and screams to please stop.

She felt her skin rip, felt the blood and the pain,
He covered her mouth so she couldn’t complain.
He stayed for hours, or so it seemed to her,
And when he was done she was bloody and hurt.

He got off her and smiled, started fixing himself.
“This is our secret girl, don’t tell no one else.”
“Your family will die, I’ll kill all your friends,"
"I’ll drown your cat and do all this again.”

She paled with fear and covered her ears.
He was her friend! He had been for years..
But it happened again the next day after that,
And being 7 years old she feared for her cat.

For the next 7 years a man ten times her age,
Used her body for his and filled her with rage.
She kept this secret, not meeting their eyes,
She lived her childhood in fear that her family would die.

She trusted no body and it was better that way.
People asked why but she just couldn’t say.
She felt shame and regret but more strongly: fear,
And her eyes were caught in a permanent tear.

It was a lesson she learned at an age much too young,
A lesson of trust, a lesson that stung.
It’s a matter of who, and it’s a matter of when,
But she know your worst enemy can be your bestriend.

I thought this was a sad poem. It was good though. I think you should learn not to trust someone when you are young. She was raped by someone that she really trusted. That must be really hard...I can relate to this poem, but it was by a neighbor and he was younger than me...I didn't tell anyone and I can't because...it hurts to much to tell my parents. Thanks for sharing. :)
