Hold Them Back

when spending a lifetime together
or so it seems
going through all of those things
that just brought us closer
it is not easy to part
to know that there is a possibility
of never seeing the other person again
there is such a feeling
of sadness and loss
you get choked up as
you go for that final hug
before turning and walking away
do not dare look back
for fear of the dam breaking
right there in public
suck it up and be strong
blink back the tears until
you are out of sight
then let them pour as your heart breaks
