Cautious Heart Overflowing with Love

Cautious Heart Overflowing with Love

A Poem by Iz

A most treasured heart's now hidden and locked from all
It was given and then trampled upon
This loving heart was the key to youth and love
Now it's been crushed
by simply returning it
A loving heart is one that's meant to be loved
and when it's not
it retreats back into hiding

The heart must be now gently coaxed out
It has never stopped loving but
it doubts the love of others
knows that their love is not as strong and sure
not something to be counted on when needed
just turn and flee in the darkest hours
the moments of dispair

Yet this heart cannot give up on love
for anyone in the world
It does not believe in a love
of its own anymore though
One that it can call its
very own

It knows that it's capable of loving anyone and everyone
but does not believe that there is one capable
of loving it like a lover can

The loving of a child is so pure
so too is the love of this
oh so gentle and fragile heart

See the new found scar
it's the scar of a love not returned
This heart is very scarred
So many it has loved
and none to return the same depth of the love
that it has dished out without
ever expecting anything in return

Just wishes once in awhile that there was someone
that could surprise it with a love
that would set the world on its heels
and make every other love pale in comparison
