Fa d i n g A w a y

A Poem by Chase

A man sits on the bus-
today as every day before.
The passengers around him sit
three seats away
two
and one...
but never in his
though it is empty to them.

Their eyes pass over his existence
as if he were not
e x i s t i n g.

A n d s o h e f a d e d a w a y.

A n d i t r e a p p e a r e d, t o t h e m-

The seat.
