Love, Like No Other

Love, Like No Other

A Poem by Chase

There's a mess in the kitchen.

Powdered sugar, cinnamon, flour,

and flecks of oil sprinkle the counter top.

A pan of donuts sizzles and cracks

in the air;

three boys, who were far too close    to the pan,

jump back  as the angry oil aims for their skin.

A woman nudges them out of the line of fire

and quickly taps each donut

till they have all been turned; a new leaf.

A delicious leaf.

A delicious pile of leaves
that will soon scald the all too eager bunch of boys.

Each chomping at the bridle bit
if only to sneak  a too hot taste
of the treats to be.

The woman, too, is anticipating the doughy delight;
though, she will likely let the boys have the first taste.

A small sacrifice to see the smiles and hear the "mmm" that will,

without a doubt,
resonate
from each of them:
her boys.

Awww....reading this just made me crave for chocolate donuts. This is such a cute little poem, really, I have no other word to describe this. I could just see the chubby little boys and their mother, her pinks rosy from the heat of the stove. And this is so up to the point, every delicious detail cautiously included.
A really ravishing read :D
