Sleep Tight

Sleep Tight

A Poem by Chase

The unmasked man who steals into your dreams
whilst you sleep;
peeling originality from your features to make you mundane and in pain.
He needs no knife as the tip of each nail has been sharpened.
Custom.

Some, thin as razors, meant for peeling back the skin.
They smoothly fillet your nose,
cheeks, chin, or lips;
making quick work of your forehead and ears.

Some, serrated, used for scoring down the lines.
Marking each feature to be sliced with the razors,
and cutting deep the tissue we hold dear.

Lastly, the curls.
These nails he grows long and severe,
like scimitars of the east.
Gouging, they are used for.
Stealing light from you as dreaming deep
you sleep.
Sweetdreams.
