A Night of Peace

A Night of Peace

A Poem by Chase

I climb in your bed, pulling back the covers, avoiding the beasts you
share it with; turning to my side and facing the heartbreaking sight
that is your front, I pause. Admiration flows through my veins as you
calmly look back: warm brown to bright blue. With a slow confidence, the
space between us is lessened and the warm burn of your forehead meets
my lips, briefly. Then between your beautifully formed eyebrows, below
the bridge of your nose, trailing down to your soft lips. I kiss them
lightly so as not to arouse, but appease with sleep. My arms fold around
and hold the angelic face to my chest; the steady beat of my heart, a
drum. Sharing this space together, till both shall again, awake.
