Early to Rise

Early to Rise

A Poem by Chase

With tall stalks of green and white surrounding me,
the line is cast.
An unnatural, yet meticulously placed pile of logs exists
off to my left.
The prehistoric snapper suns upon the dam
as the line is slowly retrieved;
an imitation.
The searing blaze of the sun is mellowed with a gentle breeze
from the north.
Suddenly, the line is taught.
Let the game begin.
