MEMORIES FROM BOARDING SCHOOL DAYS: CREST FCA Story by Alao TaiwoIt describes our love for football (me and my friends) and the camaraderie we shared while we played in secondary school. We played a lot. I still played football during NYSC in a distant landThe coach of Crest FC was a most inspiring player of six friends that make a football team among eight teams that participated in a two group tournament back in the secondary days of schooling. At a time closely knit friends good with their legs contribute an amount to enlist as quarterfinalist with a name of their choice, “Crest FC” was my team. Together with Henry, Yemi, Uthman, Niyi and Martins as goalkeeper, football was enjoyed, played from the heart with a dream of an enthusiasm which in itself passed as the grand pitch that cumulated individual pockets of brilliance hitherto displayed during “Games” period, 5 pm. Henry was a poacher, though not entirely like the six yard box Dutch forward: van Nistelrooy, Yemi was a brute defensive midfielder, Niyi played eight and possessed long range fir power like Garba Lawal, Uthman was sleek, collected and attack minded while I played on the right flank. We had it: the football gene or meme or a representative endophine which came alive on our improvised Maracanã stage, even in a game against “Golden Fish” © 2017 Alao Taiwo |
