Cemented

Cemented

A Poem by Omar
"

Beach me.

"

Cemented,
I fear the door

might never open

The ribcage, furled

Like petals of a rosebud

Into eternal night

I need the light

The lungs collapsed

In a photograph,

Asphyxiation

Forever, forever in that moment

Before the drowning man

Inhales the ocean whole

Forever.

A clog

Echoes across a drain

The valve shut

Tight.

Shh-

Shut the f**k up.

In that moment--

Upon the icy rings

Of Neptune

A sunflower reaches

Out.

To a frigid star

Forever

Cemented.

Hope not,
Hope never, to

Find the vein

And tap into it with a needle

Not with a thousand

Crowns of thorn

Hope not, hope never

Cemented

Beach me,

For I have been

Swept away by the tide

With sea, and sky, and blue

The coast is

An old, barren

Hairline

Knifing across my pupils

Beach me,

Cemented

I'm living this, right now and today. I can't begin to tell you how much empathy I have derived from this piece of excruciating pain that you have so sensitively and precisely expressed. I'm inspired. I am "cemented" because I gave my word to someone and I am so bound to that - that even if that someone is not bound to their word - I can't let go; I don't want to - even if it means - I could be forever.

(I just read Sarah Kane. Thank you for that too.)

Love the images and chosen words, they create a fluidity to which the repetition adds to, the occasional rhyme unhindered flows forth and the second stanza hold such wonderful imagery, adore the hardened elegance and elemental disguise.
