MermaidA Poem by OmarI will toss myself into the sea at daybreak I want to expire into foam Under the bath house of the sun, under His marble castle Leagues beneath his sailing ship I will Embrace nothingness upon the seabed I want to die just under his feet As he undresses her, Makes love to her. I am left with, The froth of her wedding dress And his voice His questions I could never answer God knows how I want to evanesce Into the voice of the waves I will be a saltwater song Echoing in his cochlea, A lullaby upon the windows of his palace Every stormy night As faint as the song of the conch shell I will be, A sea within a sea A dagger in his heart, A fish tail to bisect his brain Sea spray in his lungs, But I will be gone. Long, long gone. © 2011 Omar
