Extraction

Extraction

A Poem by Omar

Dead flesh

In its vile decay

Rises

Upon the soil--froth

Exhumed bone

Dances like vapor

Leaves a cavity in the dry earth

From the heart of the sea

It was isolated with precision,

Foam sparkles towards the sun

Thick--

And expires into air

Into specks of oblivion--of no

Mass

Black holes of

Void

It--

Was swallowed

By a whale, a moon crater

Cold, its beats

Were submarine

Wrapped in

Cosmic black

Under the mantle

Of tempest

I can feel the air

Trickle up my spine

Like spiders

In quietude--
Submerged

Damp thump

Thud, throb

Puls-

-ation

Thud--thud

Dry

Mouth

A noise lingers like night terrors

O, Whale

A speckle--

Lobotomized,

De--sensitized to the stench of

Your own vomit,

A star on the seabed

I call to you in ultrasounds

But nothing,

Nothing at all can reach you

Even the seaweed undulates

At the breath of the waters

Yet you--unmoved

O, Marble

Glorious,

Surgical

Immaculate--

I witnessed the final offering,

The extraction

i dunno why
but this reminds me
of the experience of violence
and in it that fleeting second
when injuries don't hurt
but the face of the offender
is the face of weakness
and vulnerability
