CraterA Poem by OmarThere is a crater Carved deep down In ice and stone
And the warm mist And rain Found not any way Anymore To awaken the earth beneath
There is a crater An indifferent crater Etched onto the surface Of the moon
There is a crater that Swallowed the scarlet sun Whole, And declared a reign of shadow
There is a mother That crushed the embryo Still within The egg Lest it hatch
There is a featureless crater Whose face I cannot conceive Whose voice, at a frequency too low For me to hear
Nuclear, Nuclear in its depth In its nearness to gravity And the center, it Cuts off the circulation of the Earth There is a dry Stone cold crater That conceals Two parting lips that spew Magmatic vomit There is a gaping crater That shines A halo All encompassing
There is a halo That encompasses everything That encompasses reason And sentiment
There is a crater Etched within the foldings Of stone and dry ice A crater sculpted Into the strata of my bowels Where the warm mist and rain hang Separate, Like oil on water Kept high, kept distant, Kept dead By the halo
There is a crater That beats like a heart Shaped like a brain, halved In which a house of thorns grew Tangled and pubic There is a crater © 2011 Omar |
