Bedtime Story

Bedtime Story

A Poem by Olmsted A. T.

Bedtime Story

So tell me a bedtime story

he best one I have ever heard

the one where

everything works out fine

as it grows line by line

awaiting a happy ending

that seems so assured

I'm too old for bedtime stories

heart's labyrinth abandoned for years

no dragon to attack

no village to protect

just an ice cold glass

of failed ambitions past

Mayhaps it was the whiskey

more than likely

the same dumb mistakes

that come back to haunt

and constantly taunt

as they jump back on and off the carousel

to regain their rightful place

Snow is preferred to sunshine

when dealing with illusions of faith

or when processing the facts

the self help gurus seem to always lack

and the message gets more distorted

the more available to the masses

that it's made

We all love bedtime stories

they remind us of an innocence now gone

these days were pooping on the clock

and hoping our calories will drop

and growing so offended at every little thing
that every single person does
