Once!

Once!

A Poem by Olmsted A. T.

Once!

If my world ended tomorrow

should I be taken tonight

I'd lament

the times we didn't share

and treasure those

you spent by my side

As they bury me neath the rubble

of my own shattered dreams

and dance atop the tombstones

of some of my fondest of memories

(Not once!)

Would they mention your name

though its branded

in blood on my chest

(Not once!)

Would they dare look your way

you'd still be ignored

eternally outcast

No matter how the leaves

fall from the trees

we planted so long ago

the bottom line

is the bittersweet wine

will soak up the tears that will never be sewn

Would the crowds remember fondly

after the sunset would the celebration fade

not like the sound of your breath in my eardrums

the sweetest music i wish i could have saved

When they inter me to slumber

with dimes where once i had eyes

never to gaze again upon your smiles

is a torture I'd be forced to abide

(Just once)

Id like to hold you again

as like a phoenix

the moonlight did rise

(Just once)

A single kiss

across your pouty lips

our hearts silhouetted against the sky

No matter how the leaves

fall from the trees

we planted so long ago

the bottom line

is the bittersweet wine

will soak up the tears that will never be sewn
