Another Familiar Epic Romance

Thinking about you and i am thinking about drinking

not much per say - just enough to take the edge off this godforsaken day

would be excited and d****t downright delighted

if you decided to pull up a stool and share one with me

we can talk all night about how the world has gone to hell

and we can laugh till our mouths clamp shut

my jaws get tired of the compliments

and your eyes get red from the jovial tears shed

well listen to all our favorite songs

and we don't have to tie a whole one on

let's just take a minute and try a pint or five on for size

It fits you well as a blind man could see

and i think i thought deliberately

to request that tune you like so well

just so i could see you smile

I've grown accustomed to the fact

that sometimes i seem to lack

the kindness that it hides within from my life

I've been out of touch

downtrodden and sullen

and I like to think I made it all happen

and it seems that sometimes

even when choosing a simple shirt to wear

the consequences could be hell to bear

so don't roll your eyes when i roll up in a hideous rag

Some of us don't go in for the trends

like some of the others we both call friends

and as the moon turns round and adds another year of wisdom

to the lengthy calendars back catalog of mistakes and heartbreaks

and triumphs and self made promises broken

and all the excuses we invent to maintain our distance

from the one truth we cant seem to agree on

and we argue with no one but a bottle of Jameson

and the voices in our own heads

Next year will be different

I know I have said that more times than i oughtta

because a years already passed

and it is just another dusty glass

held in hands quite weather-beaten

but the smiles still tend to keep us going

and the juke pulls up another familiar romance

we have grown up with hoping

one day well share one just as f*****g epic as that
