For Kitty

For Kitty

A Poem by Olmsted A. T.

For Kitty (much love)

I know it's the last song

you'll ever hear

So I'll play these progressions

till they dampen with tears

And I'll think of the times

when you'd listen to me

When I wasn't a blindspot

on your memory

And I hope that when I see you again

And it'll all be the same

You'll be holding hands with him

And chasing dreams

You inspired me to reach for the stars

I've mapped their locations

But can't find where you are

I know youre somewhere watching over me

And offering guidance with the greatest of ease

And I hope that when I can

tell that girl

What she meant to me

Youll look on and defer judgement

to a more suited king

Your lids are now closing

but your smile  brightly shines

As healthy as the day

he entered your life

You lived for each other

and now you'll Reunite

raise your hands and just let go

and be free from this life

And my hope is that one day

But not any time soon

I'll be able to thank you personally

And again sing you this tune
