10 Dead YearsA Poem by Olmsted A. T.Part of the concept album called "A Gaslight Requiem"Ten Dead Years For ten dead years I’ve haunted the shipyards And skulked through Stygian alleyways Been crippled in the gutters with snide remarks And the finest of Scotch whiskeys for brains Started riots at the funeral of the Baron Shoved you dead in the ground before your time Raided his vaults of his plundered riches Broke every biased law he could design
A phantom with a single purpose of revenge A penance bartered nightly and in the morning one more sin Ten dead years a specter howling out the shame of this ghost town’s denizens
Mumbled rumored tales to his congregation But was only proffered charitable doubt Was accosted late at night for singing dirges in the rain So I burned their f*****g hospital down I would never find comfort all that easily In their greedy pleas of restraint It was their nonchalant acts of dismissal That seemed some form of plotted mockery
Drunk on solace of a desperate frame of mind An addiction that I have yet to find relief Auctioned my soul to the highest bidder I could find Wandering aimlessly through these abandoned streets Anger and bloodshed are my new companions And they seem to suit my demeanor quite well A notch on my gun for every b*****d that I’ve killed A bloody trail I’ll follow straight to hell
Holed up with harlots renting tarnished dignity but their touch was callus and oh so bittersweet Had their dog-ends snuffed out on the soles of my feet While sleeping off monthly binges between their dingy sheets
Now too many a town’s crowded jail cells and busy taverns have robbed me of my time and my constitution grows ever so weary with every hookers purchased painted smile For ten dead years I’ve haunted the shipyards And skulked through Stygian alleyways Been crippled in the gutters with snide remarks And the finest of Scotch whiskeys for brains
