Never Trust A Weatherman (Maybe Just This Once)

Never Trust A Weatherman (Maybe Just This Once)

A Poem by Olmsted A. T.

Never Trust A Weatherman (Maybe This One Time)

How long can I hold on to the ghosts of our memories

How long can I sing our song

when there’s not even the bare-boned skeleton of a melody

All that I have left is a polaroid of us together

Walking hand in hand though it’s blurred with time

and happened to be shot in the most inclement of weather

But you still look as beautiful to me now

maybe even more so than I knew you did then

that’s what hurts most when the storm clouds swell

and I’m forced to make myself admit

there’s a 50% chance I’ll get to kiss you again

But as a young man there was a lesson

it was a lesson I learned well

You can never trust a weatherman

and that mantra has seemed to help

So as I raise a glass of hope to the moon

and I toast this balmy bayou night

Wondering where you are

and daydream of being by your side

when the forecast called for rain

the sun continued to shine through bright

and I hope this time that the weatherman

for a change just might be right
