ITMOY Chapter 1 - sneak peek (part 2)

The clouds are more a gloom than usual this evening. They weigh heavily upon the city of Baltimore, Maryland. Patches of snow covered the cobblestone sidewalks and the orange streetlamps. Some people are just now getting back home after working overtime while others were out window shopping as Christmas comes closer every day.

A man with unruly brown hair walked out of a small vintage bar that was stationed in the dim alleyways. He leaned against the nearest wall and lit up a cigarette. The flame giving little warmth and light to his features as the smoke blended into the winter air as he took a slow drag, long enough to calm his nerves. A slight breeze came through the alleyway that made him shiver to the bone, making him wrap the collar of his trench coat more securely around his neck.

His brown eyes looked up at the clouds as it began to snow again and took his flip phone out. He signed when it refuse to work before warming up the phone with his hands. Being this cold out; electronics such as these don't work so well.

Once it was working, he scrolled through his list of numbers. The buzzing and the flickering sound of the bar's welcome sign filled in the silence around him. His cigarette held loosely between his fingers as he waited.

“Damien?" A woman's voice answered the call.
