Chapter four-Un-ExpectedA Chapter by The FallenChapter Four- Un-Expected Asher There are no easy answers, but there are simple ones. We must make the decision to answer the questions instead of leaving it untold . - Ronald Reagan I have considered telling Cora what I am, she has asked and will require a answer soon. I have considered the fact that she may feel compelled to tell me if I tell her my answer. She looked out the window, her right hand propped her head up. She was silent, her black eyes scanned the horizon. Her white hair spilled down her back. I turned on the radio, breaking the silence that felt as if it had lasted forever. I tapped out the beat on the steering wheel. Cora's lips remained pressed in a straight line, I wish I knew what she was thinking. "How much longer?" She asked, still gazing out the window. I looked at her from the corner of my eyes. "A few minutes." I replied. She sat up straight and looked out the front window, her tiny hands placed in her lap. The purple nail polish glittered in the sun. She was gorgeous. My eyes caught a tiny crescent moon on her wrist. "What does the moon mean?" I asked. She looked down at her wrist and pulled the pink sleeve down over it. "Nothing." She barked. "Clearly it's something." I replied calmly. She sighed. "It's just a family thing." She shifted uncomfortably in her seat. "If I tell you what I am will you tell me?" I asked. I turned onto the main road. She smirked and looked at the sun, she started muttering ancient words again. Her index finger went to her lips. "It's a possibility, but I make no promises, the moon says trust must be earned." She said. So she speaks to the moon? Weird. I pulled into Wal-Mart and parked near the entrance. "Maybe I will later." I smiled and opened the door. She followed after me, looking around with a frown. "What?" "If someone laughs at me 'cause I'm wearing this, I will hurt them." She stated, then bursted through the doors."What's my limit?" She asked. "Huh?" "Money limit." She looked back at me. "Oh right." I pulled out my wallet. I looked through the bills and pulled out two one hundred bills. I handed them to her. She snatched them up and ran off towards the women's clothes. I fixed my jacket, and walked towards the electronic aisle. The first person I see is the last person I wanted to. James. He wore jeans with a red tee. He grabbed a few CD's and then his eyes met mine. A evil grin spread across his face. He walked over and ran a hand through his black hair. "Asher, It's been a long time." He greeted me. I rolled my eyes and leaned up against the glass window that covered the video games. "I could have gone longer without seeing you." I snarled. "No need to be rude." James said. "How is Maria and Barren?" I asked. Barren was Warren's twin brother, Barren is evil and Warren is good. Maria was a shapeshifter. Both of them use to stay with me, that is until James convinced them to join him. "The two of them are perfectly fine." He replied. I nodded. Cora ran up behind me with a hand full of clothes. "Asher, which on looks better. This?" She held up a plain pink V-neck."Or this?" She held up a purple V-neck. "Cora, both of them look fine, just get them both." I ran a hand across my face. James glared at Cora, his blue eyes spiked an interest. "Hello there." He greeted her calmly. She glared at him and scoffed. "You are?" "James." He took her hand in his. She growled and yanked her hand away. "Never touch me." She snarled and stormed off towards the make up aisle. I chuckled. "Where'd you find her?" James asked. He was clearly interested in taking her. I wasn't going to let that happen. James was the owner of the only lab that experimented on supernaturals. The Square. Some supernaturals even died in the process. "She won't go with you." I said. "You don't know what she is do you?" He asked. I shook my head. "Oh just you wait, Asher. It will surprise you, but in time she will come to me." James said before walking off. What did he mean? "How do you know what she is?" I called after him. He raised a hand, to tell me to stop talking. He kept walking away. I growled how did my arch-enemy know what my new addition was and I didn't? I walked off, towards the aisle Cora went to. She was browsing through eyeliner and mascara. She held five pairs of jeans, six t-shirts, two hoodies, socks,a white dress and undergarments. She placed hair ties and make up in a basket.
"It'd be much easier if you had a cart." I explained.
"Well I can handle this myself, it's just clothes." She said.
"No shoes?" I asked. She nodded and shoved a pair of black ballet flats at me.
"These." She said, and exited the aisle. Cora always refused to look me in the eye when she spoke. There were plenty of questions I had for her, but I know she won't answer. Cora made her way to the cash register, she threw the bundle of clothes, makeup, and accessories on the counter. The worker stared at the pile of clothes and sighed. She started to scan them one by one, patiently. She never once said a word. She placed them in a bag and looked up at me. "I assume you will be carrying these?" She asked. Her frail fingers held up six bags in each had. I quickly grabbed them. Cora smiled and dashed out of the store. I sighed and trailed after her. The bags were heavy, I wondered what girls even saw in shopping. Lugging around bags of clothes took a lot of effort. It was kind of like a work out for girls. I chuckled at the thought. Cora's black eyes watched me, they asked a question; Why are you laughing. I gave her a smile and loaded the bags in the car. She quickly sat in her seat and tapped her fingernails on the dashboard. "Are you going to tell me what you are?" She asked sweetly. I never knew she was capable of being sweet. "Will you tell me?" I replied. Her smile held secrets, and strangely enough her eyes changed colour, they were no longer black. They were a light purple. "What are you?" I asked, the keys in my fingers dropped to the floor. © 2013 The Fallen
