Chapter One Questions

Cora

My legs dangled off the arm of the black chair, I was sitting on. My head pounded. I looked around the white room, the only other item in here was a opposing black arm chair. A girl with brown hair handed me a cup of tea. I held it with both hands and tapped a rhythm on the glass cup. The door opened and shut, I continued to stare at the wall.

“What's your name?” I asked. I refused to make eye contact.

“Why does it matter.” He voice sounded tired. I peered at him from the corner of my eye. His red hair was tousled, and bags framed his eyes. He looked exhausted.

“You know mine, so it's only fair.” I said, and stopped tapping on the cup.

“Asher.” He replied simply and took a seat in the chair. I took a sip of tea and sat up right in the chair. I placed the cup in my lap and glared at him.”May I ask you some questions?” He asked politely. I shrugged lazily. He was going to ask me questions whether I said yes or no, so my answer didn't matter.

“Do what you wish.” I took another sip of tea.

“Where are you from?” He asked. He then pulled out a clipboard and placed it on his lap.

“Uh. I'm from Minnesota. “ I stuttered. My memory was fuzzy, I hardly remembered what had happen in the past. He scribbled my answer down on the paper.

“Last name?” He looked up at me, his bright blue eyes were full of curiosity.

“Chambers.” I replied.

“Age?” I pondered the question, was I eighteen or seventeen.

“Eighteen.” I said with a hint of hesitation. He nodded and continued writing. “Is this really necessary?” I asked. He nodded again.

“I must know as much as possible about you, since you will be staying here.” He said.

“Look I should be dead, the fact that you revived me was totally unnecessary.” I stood up. “Why did you save me?” I looked down at him.

“I saw you die, and your so young. I knew I could save you so I did. ” He said.

“I wanted to be dead.” I growled.

“Why?” He asked, he stood up as well. He was a good four inches taller then me. He looked about 6'3”. Next to him, I felt short.

“I have my reasons.” I crossed my arms and stared up at him, though being shorter then he was I wasn't very intimidating.

“Your not full human are you?” He looked down at me.

“Of course not, You injected vampire DNA in my blood.” I replied with a smirk.

“You weren't human before that.” He said abruptly. His hair fell over his eyes, and we were no longer playing twenty questions, he was dead serious. I gnawed on the inside of my cheek.

“Your not entirely human either.” I muttered. I set my empty cup on the chair behind me. He looked at me, his lips were pressed in a straight line. “So tell me, why should I reveal my secret,  and the reason I want to be dead right now. To a man who hides more things then I do.” I snarled.

"Fine then don't answer the question, but in time I will find out." He said. "Celeste has a room for you, She will escort you there in a few minutes." He tore his gaze from mine and exited the room without another word. I looked at my wrist, I pulled the sleeves off my arm and looked at my  crescent moon tattoo. My hands instantly went to my neck, I felt the circular pendant dangling from the chain on my neck. I sighed happily, I was glad he hadn't taken it off.  The door opened, and the brown haired girl entered.

"Follow me." She said. I yanked the sleeve back down over my wrist and exited the room, following closely behind her. I looked around desperate for a escape. I didn't want to be locked up in here and become a science experiment. There were only a few doors, and most of them were heavily guarded with guards with black shirts. I growled, I couldn't take them all on.

The girl stopped in front of a white door. "I hope you enjoy your stay here, Cora." She said with a smile.

"What's your name?" I asked.

"Celeste." Right, Asher had mentioned that, it must have slipped my mind. I opened the door and entered my new room. A single bed stood in the middle of the room, and a black comforter laid over it. The door shut quickly, I ran back and looked out the window, Celeste looked at me and smiled then took off. I grabbed the doorknob and jiggled it. Locked. I growled at my stupidity, how could I trust a scientists assistant. I punched the wall, and instantly pulled back my arm and cradled it in my other arm. That was stupid, I will admit. If only I was still dead, If only he had never saved me. I felt like I was a caged animal, sure I wasn't  human but I didn't deserve to be treated this way. I carefully un-hooked my necklace and looked at it in the palm of my hand.

"I'm sorry Dad." I kissed the necklace and then placed it back on my neck. This was one of many reasons I wanted to be dead. Now that I was alive and stronger than before, I will attempt to save my father even if it kills me again. I looked down at my feet, my combat boots still attached to them, I smirked. I reached into the leg of the boots and pulled out a knife. I held the knife firmly in my hand and turned to the door. I shoved the knife in the hey hole and twisted. My other hand pulled open the door.

"They really should check their patients for weapons." I giggled and peered out into the hallway. The guards were still posted at every exited in the halls. I growled and looked around. Come on Cora, your better then this! Think! I ordered myself. I looked up at the lamps that hung from the ceiling, I looked around once more before jumping into mid-air and landing on the top of one. The next one was only a few feet away, if I could only jump onto it. I eased myself towards the edge of the lamp and pushed myself off. I landed gracefully onto of the next one. Just keep doing this and your out of here. I thought to myself.
