The Tormented Sea

The Tormented Sea

A Poem by oliviabush

As the tide rolls out I am swept away with it

The crashing and tumbling waves slowly tear away at my soul
Leaving only the tiniest bits for the fish to devour
As I drift further out the sea becomes calmer and more serene
The deep blue hues from these still waters softens my hardened heart
That wishes to be freed from my wretched water-beaten body for more water creatures to devour
The sky over my head is a pale blue smattered with little white clouds and gray sea gulls
The birds from time to time will fly down to perch upon my pitiful head to look for food
The waters around me again start to become rough as land becomes closer
The wild water pushes me hard both forward and under
Making me wonder if I will survive this to be on land again
The water gets rougher and rougher so I can barely keep my head above the surface of the water
As I am about to give up I am thrown onto the beach with such force
That I cannot stand up so I lay there to wait for my strength to return
I finally get up and walk a short distance to rest some more in the shade of a tall palm tree
The cool ocean breeze slowly revives me so I can walk further up the beach
Soon I tire and walk towards the sea again
My body longing to be with my soul
The tide again washes me deep out into the sea
This time I give up completely giving myself to the sea to end its suffering
The sea calms and becomes silent as the murky waters claim another
To ease the insatiable hunger of its cold depths
