Reflecting
I am but
a mirror reflecting back to you Tell me… What do
you see when you look at me?
An old
wack hippie An airy
fairy freak A still
pond reflecting… An old
woman sagging to new heights
I am but
a mirror reflecting back to you Tell me… What do
you see when you look at me?
Do you
see my compassion watered by grace…? Can you
smell my generosity? Am I as
deep as the Marianas Trench? Loyal as
the day is long
I am but
a mirror reflecting back to you Tell me… What do
you see when you look at me?
Am I the
b***h who screwed you? Glued and
tattooed your life The one
who used and abused you…
I am but
a mirror reflecting back to you Tell me… What do
you see when you look at me?
Do you
see my fervent pleas? Picket
signs, fist raised in solidarity Do you
see a water protector? An old
crone passing sage advice
I am but
a mirror reflecting back to you Tell me… What do
you see when you look at me?
Do you
see the one carving furrows of worry on your brow? Do you see
the mother of your pain? Father of
everything wrong with the world Patron of
the devil himself
I am but
a mirror reflecting back to you Tell me… What do
you see when you look at me?
Am I the
one who gave the shirt off their back? Did I
give you refuge from the storm? Soothe
your weary soul with a calming salve Did I
pull you from the pit of despair?
You are
but a mirror reflecting back to me I’ll tell
you… This is
what I see when I look at you
I see
infinite potential reaching for light Seed of
the great sequoia bathing in fire so it might soon sprout I see you
as the great kelp forest cradling an otter pup I see you
see me as the love that I most certainly am
I see
Agape pouring itself out upon the world I see you
