Empty Handed

Leap empty handed into the void

Loose yourself and find identity

You are not your labels not a job

Infinite potential yearns for light

Joy laden seconds passing you by

Seize the creative spirit within you

Satiate the desires buried, starved

Leap toward your hearts delight

Fulfill the individuality that’s you

No one else has your uniqueness

Assimilation into sameness will kill

Decimating a true beauty that lives

Let your light shine with brightness

Your color uniquely, perfectly you

Dying to step out of the beige life

The anguished spirit screams silently

Within the trapped, imprisoned heart

Bloodied by flinging itself against

The bars of the cage it is locked within

Deep inside art, music, N words live

Begging to see the light of day N stars

They seep onto your pillow in dreams

Savoring lucid moments in the sky

As you fall back to earth forgetting

Your name, identity obscured in drab

As psychedelic, kaleidoscope reality is

The true nature of light refracting itself

Reflect possibility of the sleeping giant

Within the perfection called by your name

Wake up sleeping giant and breathe in

The word Inspiration comes from breath

Like plants transpiration emits life moist

Clouds gather on the horizon forming freedom

Gentle rains fall watering your garden mind

Soaking the earth from where you sprang

Drinking in life giving waters of joy

Music, art, and words flourishing healthy

The garden waxes lovelier seed by seed

Sprout by sprout flower by flower you

Resurrected from a dark night of the soul

Author's Note

Veronica Chandler
This is a glimpse at a pep talk I had with myself while listening to Brother IZ and watching his video Somewhere Over The Rainbow/What a Wonderful World medley This man left us too early for his heart was too big for his body to contain. He is missed by the countless lives he touched. I hope he touches you too.
