Our Last Adieu

The world ends today.
The grand finale.
Nothing left to say.
Stage left, final exit.

The culmination of a world so destroyed,
So tattered and worn,
That there was nothing left, anyway,
No smile a face could adorn.

Materialism, racism, bigotry, hate.
Was this all that could be said of our legacy?
Rightly so it would end on this date.
With a sky so dark, a world so cold and lost.

Not a soul to be seen
But you and me.
From the sky to the earth is a beam of light
I hold you close, I hold you tight.

I lean forward for one last kiss
Before what is sure to be eternal abyss.
Light bursts into flame
Violent and blinding.

A wall of dust and debris.
Blown back, I cling to your arm.
The wall growing, speeding hungrily toward us.
I look out on the desolate and lonesome streets.

Nowhere to run.
No way to hide.
My dear friend, this life was fun.
We say our final goodbye.

Adieu, my love.
I catch your eye.
In the cool reflection I see myself
Consumed by the great wall, until I am no more.
