All roads

All roads

Bring to me calm upon evening Rome
My horses are tired and the dogs are worn out
we traveled for days quiet among thunder
racing the storms Jupiter brought us under
we were drenched, clothed in its bath
held in cupped hands as sky covered over
thieves along the road took all that I had owed
night became clear stalked over somber
giving them pause as the canines caught
edges cut costs of their bravery loss
I pulled back their grift
under pools of the pale night moon
watching them scatter like sestertii returned
their rightful place it seems out of the eye
into the breeze, those among trickery shadowy beings
the meat had gone scarce but bread was still left
tearing in half for the dogs and allegiance
We the drenched headed on west
following the road back towards home
Venti came about shouting aloud forcing us on
as they grew strong, horses snort as I retort
at my back where you belong for this travel wears on me so
journeying with speed we skirted the sea
watching the waves as light broke the way
sirens sung blue and grey flipping their tails
onward pressed to where one sails
finally the last stretch beckoned
A guess upon rest for me, reckoned
culling me back home cut from the herd
I praised the landmarks each one that said hi
nearing closer even grasses knew familiar
My Heart smiled as the gates opened up
dropping me at last to that which is known

A traveler of Myth on the old Roman roads. Awesome. In those days it was said "All roads lead to Rome'" (least that's what I heard, For all I know it could have come from an old vaudeville act) Where I live on the Gulf coast of Florida you could say "All roads lead to Detroit" cause if you look on a map, they do. That's kinda fucked up. Detroit's a s**t hole.

i thought of the triumvirat album, "spartacus" reading this...that song "march to the eternal city"....this poem is pure gravy, my friend. it is so well thought out and cleverly penned as to evoke many images and thoughts. sweet!
