The True Hand Of Friendship

The True Hand Of Friendship

A Poem by Stephen
"

I have a friend, that has no friends, and I have reached out my true hand of friendship. This was written for a real person.

"

She is standing amongst millions
surrounded by people everywhere
she walks amongst the crowd
Intermingling with the people around her

They acknowledge she is there
and they use her for personal gain
she is noticed for her outward beauty
but still she goes unnoticed amongst the million

They key in on her beautiful features
They watch as she passes by
The men whisper to each other
because they are struck by her beauty

All the while, they miss the true beauty
of a beautiful soul
who wants to be wanted
but is wanted superficially

She reaches out to all those around her
but finds herself falling into apparitions everywhere
She is longing for real friendship
but are there really any there?

She finally comes across such a one
That when she reaches he is there
giving forward the hand of friendship
and friendship that is real

I like the way the idea of friendship has been explored and the conclusion:
"She finally comes across such a one
That when she reaches he is there
giving forward the hand of friendship
and friendship that is real"#
really planted an image in my head of a true friend reaching out.
but I felt the use of intermingling holds this ironic quality that she mingles but isn't noticed I felt that it didn't fit in with the first stanza which was more focused on isolation, however I enjoyed the poem.

It's so true that everyone finds just the outer beauty striking and fail to see the inner beauty of a person which is the only permanent attribute one has!
Beautifully expressed..very well written, Stephen :)

This was indeed a poem written from heart not brain..Emotions need to be expressed. thats what we writers do. You wrote this as an observer. observing that how lonely she was out in a crowd even. I LIKED the irony here.It often happens we are surrounded by fake people who use usfor personal gain. you rightly pointed that out ... and i am glad you have freely offeredher the hsnd of friendship... She is indeed very lucky... :) *god bless you*
