Experience The Teacher

Experience The Teacher

A Poem by Stephen

In the woods
there is a pond
a mystery surrounds it
it lies in the laund

Tales have been told
of this mysterious pond
tales of enchantment
other tales, not so fond

Few men have dared to venture
into the woods so deep
to find out the truth
Of the pond's keep

There came along such a man
with the truth he was concerned
he didn't settle for tales
from tales nothing is learned

Experience is his teacher
set out did he, for the journey beyond
to find out the truth
behind this mysterious pond

an ardous journey
was this trip to be
filled with many dangers
its a wonder he didn't flee

but the experience gained
from him being persistent you see
taught him many lessons
better off was he

The pond he saw
to it he was drawn
with much more wisdom
was it looked upon

with a keen eye searched he
the surface and beyond
no unfond things or enchantments
did he find about the pond

He learned the truth
experience taught him well
seek to know whats real
or you may fall for a false tale

Experience the teacher
that's where truth is gained
for if you haven't been through it
Wisdom you have not attained

I thoughts the rhyming was a bit forced in some places and therefore affected the flow, but the last stanza was amazing. If I could suggest something one of my creative writing teachers told me: read out loud. Then you can hear how it really sounds. Other than that, I like the idea of this poem a lot. Good job finding something awesome to write about :)

Welcome! :)
I dont know if Im right, but I thought of a person pursuing their goals and dreams when i read this. The man knows of the pond, and knows that in order to get to it, he'll have to navigate the woods. But he knows nothing of what lurks in the woods(which is like how it is when people are pursuing their dreams). He finds creatures(obstacles) that try to stop him, but still he pushes on. As he keeps fighting the creatures, he learns how to take them down. Eventually he reaches the pond(his dream) a stronger man than when he first started out. So the message i got from it was "when something tries to keep you from your dreams, fight back". I'm being truthful when i say that this is one of the best poems i have ever read. Bravo sir!!! :)

I encourage everyone that reads this poem, to find the true underlying meaning to this poem. This poem for me goes deeper than the service in which it is read. Give me your insights as to what you get out of this poem and see if anyone can see what the true meaning is.

This writing hooked me in.You told the tale in a delicate way... Weaving the charm with your words.. The best thing about you is you are versatile in writing you write introspecctive poems yet you can tell tales expertly.... Yes experience is the best teacher right... don't fall for myths :) So i guess you wull follow what "to strive to seek to find and not to yield " *keep writing * God bless you

The message being sent out is loud and clear - "don't believe anything blindly. Only when we go looking for the truth do we learn. Sometimes, the journey teaches us more than the destination" . A really good write :)

Hey..an amazing piece of writing!
"Seek to know whats real or you may fall for a false tale"
It's really important to experience the truth ourselves..in order to not be fooled!
I loved the way you conveyed such a deep message through a beautiful story. :)
Well written!
