Except the You of You

Except the You of You

A Poem by Odin Roark

To know oneself seems clear when we overcome the formidable challenge needing to be understood; arguably, the creation of our own reality..(Image by Video Blocks)

Except the You of You

So,
What do you do,
You who rush to be somewhere
Knowing others clamor to jump ahead,
To be there waiting to push you back.

What do you do,
You whose dreams remain tenuous
Without the courage to risk,
Whose narrow window of time ticks backward
For fear of the future,
Who needs what others wish to prevent,
To stand upon you own weathered peak?

Inclement passage need not be feared,
For the route only you know
Traverses through your own created clouds
Revealing sunlight you also create
Above the storms no one else can own…

Except the you of you.

I found it easy to invest myself in this poem, and I think that's the magic behind it. Anyone can read this and find it applicable. And the imagery just works. It's one of those poems that doesn't revolve on rhyme but compelling ideas.
One thing: "To stand upon you own weathered peak?" is that a type. The only part of the poem that threw me off. Otherwise, thanks for writing this.
