Our Weathered Permanence
by Odin Roark Our weathered dwelling Of flesh and bone Knows well the neighborhood Where learning always walked Beside passion’s frequent visits Forsaking ignorance as intruder Many a storm battered It’s shuttered eyelids Challenging windows to the heart With life’s incessant turbulence Feverish pulsations Sped up Slowed down But never stopped And… Like the foreshadow of past sunrises Awaiting the fading Of a final sunset This tenacious mettle Stood ready for the inevitable After all Like the music of raindrops Impacting becalmed waters Ripples of experience fully realized Could always find new shores Another creation Would begin with its own Naked slab-like foundation Imbue its skeletal rise With passion’s residual trust And insure its vulnerability With steadfast sealant of will Survival’s aging grace Knew its framework of spirit Would forever perpetuate remembrance That yesterday As today Eternally preserved such oneness By its undying embrace Of tomorrow’s perpetual unknowns © 2014 Odin Roark |
